The format was distracting at first, but once I got used to it I really loved the story.

Sort of like a Korean A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

Book: The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart

Despite an increasingly boring slump in the middle this was a good book. All the loose ends were tied up nicely and I'm intrigued to see what the second book can possibly be about.

Didn't know what to expect, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Made me want to go to Scotland.

Book: Ivy and Bean by Annie Barrows

 Very cute and clever. Perfect for a little girl transitioning from picture books to chapter books.

[Incidentally, Annie Barrows is the co-author of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.]

Very cute. Good for boys who are just starting to read.

Okay, not good.

I felt like parts of the story were missing. There was so much at the end that I just didn't understand.

[Turns] a cliche and over-done plot into readable and riveting territory. Very beneficial for young girls who don't realize how far women have come.
