December Book #4

Book: Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo

A sweet, quick read that reminded me a lot of Bo.

I really love this author's style. I will definitely go pick up more books by her. Tale of Despereaux is already a favorite.

December Book #3

Book: Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie

This was another book I had to read for Seton Hill. I fully planned not to enjoy it, but it was really good! I couldn't put it down!

I sort of get annoyed with leading women who hate their bodies though. It gets old fast.

December Book #2

Book: The Legend of Holly Clause by Brittney Ryan

Long at parts, but once Holly gets to New York it's very fast-paced and much more interesting.

December Book #1

Book: The Christmas Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini

Cute, but probably not something I will read again and again.

October Book #6

Book: The Little Guide to Your Well-Read Life by Steve Leveen

A very nice little book about getting more out of your reading, including how to choose books, book clubs, and tracking what you've read.

October Book #5

Book: Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach

Lots of very good quotes and ideas.

October Book #4

Book: Moving On by Sarah Ban Breathnach

Not as good as Something More, but excellent.

October Book #3

Book: Things to Bring, S#!T to Do... & Other Inventions of Anxiety: My Life in Lists by Karen Rizzo

Quick read that brought a smile to my face. It was really interesting and changed the way I look at my lists.

October Book #2

Book: The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

I re-read all of my favorite parts. This is still one of the best YA books of all time.

Ms. Hale is amazing.

October Book #1

Book: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Dachshunds by Liz Palinka

Very good start if I ever have the courage to get another Coco.

September Book #2

Book: Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

A very good book. It discussed women and women's issues that I had not been previously aware of.

It made me want to start a women's voting movement!

September Book #1

Book: Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale

I really loved it! It has a lot of the same elements as The Goose Girl, but told in a whole new way.

August Book #1

Book: Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

A step down from New Moon and two steps down from Twilight. I don't think I'll ever read it again.

When I was done I loved Jacob more than Edward. All the characters were topsy-turvy in this one.

July Book #3

Book: Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

Intriguing and interesting, but there should have been more plot. The only reason I was afraid of the fairies was because she kept telling me to be. They never really did anything scary.

July Book #2

Book: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

I cried when Fred died, and when George lost an ear. I appreciated the way she didn't have to kill Harry, but I didn't like the epilogue.

She tried too hard to make it happily every after.

July Book #1

Book: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

I'm still not sure. I don't hate it anymore, but I can't love it either.

I need to think about it and maybe read it again later.

June Book #3

Book: Austenland by Shannon Hale

Very cute and sweet. A nice take on "Pride and Prejudice" that I will probably read again!

Tuesday, June 5, 2007

June Book #1

Book: Hyperion by Dan Simmons

I hated this book. It took forever to get through, but it's required reading for Seton Hill [University's Writing Popular Fiction Program] so I had to!

May Book #5

Book: The Masque of the Black Tulip by Lauren Willig

The second book in the Pink Carnation books, it's a nice continuation of the theme. Unlike most sequels it focuses on different characters from the first.

Very good. Less smutty than the first one. I liked it!

May Book #4

Book: The Hopeless Romantic's Handbook by Gemma Townley

A cute, fast read that I really enjoyed. Brought to light the fact that I really AM a hopeless romantic!

Monday, May 14, 2007

May Book #3

Book: Zel by Donna Jo Napoli

Excellent expansion of the Rapunzel fairy tale with interesting twists. Very well-written. I will probably read more books by her in the future.

Friday, May 11, 2007

June Book #2

Book: Alpha by Catherine Asaro

Another sci-fi for Seton Hill.

Okay, as far as these books go.

Wednesday, May 9, 2007

May Book #2

Book: Ophelia by Lisa Klein

I really loved this book, but not for any real extraordinariness in it, but because it brought back beautiful memories of last summer and Brian Vaughn's portrayal of Hamlet. I was truly blessed to experience such an amazing play in the hands of a genius.

May Book #1

Book: Nicholas Nickelby by Charles Dickens

LONG! The movie is much better. I am glad I read it, but I could, in no way, read it again.

Monday, April 16, 2007

April Book #2

Book: East by Edith Pattou

Interesting amalgam of fairy tales. The changing narrator was, again, a little jarring but I still liked it once I got into it.

Sunday, April 8, 2007

April Book #1

Book: Bella at Midnight by Diane Stanley

Predictable, but very sweet. The changing narrator with each chapter grated a little, but for what she was aiming at it was the only way to tell the story, I suppose.

Sunday, March 18, 2007

March Book #3

Book: The Farthest-Away Mountain by Lynne Reid Banks

Cute and imaginative. Not as well-developed as it could have been, but still a nice, easy read.

Saturday, March 10, 2007

March Book #2

Book: New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

Not as good as Twilight; but still good. Very sad in parts.

Better with each subsequent reading.

Thursday, March 8, 2007

March Book #1

Book: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Read again and again!

Edward is the ideal man.
